FOX CHAPEL AREA BRANCH OF AAUW
AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research.
Branch meetings feature speakers of interest on a variety of topics and are held the second Tuesday of each month, September through May, at the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15238. All meetings begin at 9:30 AM unless otherwise noted in the schedule.
Board meetings are open to all members and are held on the first Tuesday of each month (except for holidays) October through June and the last Tuesday of August, at 9:30 AM.
AAUW STATEMENT
AAUW, founded in 1881, is open to all graduates who hold an associate or equivalent, baccalaureate or higher degree from a qualified college or university. Those enrolled in an associate or a bachelor degree program can join AAUW as Student Affiliate Members. There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, or disability. Membership is not by invitation. Annual dues are $70. Student Affiliate dues are $25. All members receive Outlook, Keystoner, and branch publications. PURPOSE
The purpose of this branch shall be to unite graduates of accredited educational institutions in order to promote equity, education, intellectual growth, individual worth, and development of opportunities for women and girls.
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
Individuals eligible to be admitted to membership are those holding an associate or equivalent, baccalaureate, or higher degree from a qualified educational institution, a degree from a foreign institution recognized by the International Federation of University Women (IFUW), or a foreign degree acceptable as a basis for admission by graduate schools at qualified universities of the United States. Membership is NOT by invitation.
FOX CHAPEL AREA EDUCATIONAL FUND
Our branch fundraising efforts support:
*Annual Chatham Women Read-to-Lead Award as a career launching grant for graduating seniors who are in financial need and are about to begin their careers or further graduate studies in the areas of science, math, engineering or technology
*Biennial Young Women’s Recogntion Night to honor young women from Dorseyville Middle School in the Fox Chapel Area School District who show promise in the study of math or science to encourage them to continue in these studies.
*Biennial Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Careers Achievement Night to honor young women in the Fox Chapel Area High School who show promise in the STEM fields to encourage them to continue in these areas of study and to give them an opportunity to meet with women professionals working in STEM careers.
*Biennial Kids in the Middle Grant to middle school teachers for creative programs that address the mission of AAUW
*Biennial Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Careers Achievement Night honors and encourages young sophomore and junior women from Fox Chapel Area High School who show enthusiasm and promise in these fields of study and possible career paths.
*Annual Friend of Equity Award recognizes a person or group who show by action and philosophy the equity for girls and women.
*AAUW National Funds are supported by the branch and is the major focus of our fundraising activities. Grants are available to enable AAUW members to take courses for career advancement at any level and to aid women scholars to complete doctoral and post-doctoral work. Funds are also available for research projects, publications and legal advocacy for women in discrimination and pay equity in employment cases.
STUDENT AFFILIATES
Students actively pursuing associate or baccalaureate degrees may become Student Affiliates entitled to attend Branch Meetings and Interest and Study Groups. They are not eligible to hold office or vote.

Fox Chapel Area Branch of AAUW is partners with the Chatham College for Women student affiliate of AAUW. Our branch awards the annual Chatham Women Read-to-Lead Award as a career launching grant for graduating seniors who are in financial need and are about to begin their careers or further graduate studies in the areas of science, math, engineering or technology.
